Storing What I Love by Debs Wainwright

Hello everyone Debs here with a fantastic solution to your storage needs. All week we have been showing different storage boxes from That's Crafty's new product range. These storage boxes stack, they are sturdy-made of MDF, and can be decorated any way you want. Please see previous posts for ideas as my talented team mates have shown some fabulous creative ideas.

Here's my box which is designed to hold your spray paints.

I wanted to show the versatility of these boxes and so chose to decorate one side and one face in a similar style.

Before I tell you about the outside I'll walk you through the steps before. All products used will be listed at the end.

Here’s what did

I partially stuck the box together, but left one side open, allowing me to paint the inside. If you paint the sides before assembly, ensure that the tabs and holes are kept as free from paint as possible as these boxes are precision cut, and if you create thickness on theses areas if will be difficult to fit together.

I gave the box a coat of white paint and then dry brushed the pink over the top. Once this was dry, and I gave it a little hand from my heat tool, I used Dinky Stencils to add some interest.

I used several stencils to build up the layers in different colours.

Now for the outside. As I said earlier each half is different. So let me show you the photos and I'll talk you through what I did.

I started with the Arched Window Dinky Stencil and using the bumping technique created a window effect. I also used the Stone Window Dinky Stencil (coming soon!) in a very light Archival ink and then stamped some leaves and stems from again in using Archival Ink. I added some small flowers stamps I had carved. 

For this side I started with the three windows and then worked my brickwork around them. This is very simple because the stencil is easy to match up. I again added some stems and leaves and a few flowers. In the windows I stamped some girls and a present. I imagined them having a party.

On these two side I used a mixed media approach. I stamped the hearts and painted them with acrylic paint. I then sprayed areas of the box with with spray paint. Once dry I added shading using Gelatos I added some random script and on the small side using a stencil and Grunge Paste, which was then painted and highlighted with Treasure Gold. I gave it two coats of spray vanishing in gloss to complete.
