Rose and Butterflies by Lynne Moncrieff

As you can see I am still playing with paperclay!

This was made with Mother’s Day in mind, a gift box adorned with roses and butterflies ready for you to tuck inside a gift of chocolates, jewellery, a silk scarf or a gift you have created yourself.

WOW Shabby Roses Mold
Creative Paperclay
Distress Paints:- Tattered Rose and Victorian Velvet
Gel Medium
Papier Mache Round Box

Apply two thin coats (or more) of Gesso. Once dry apply Antarctic paint. I dry brushed this on to allow the Gesso to peek through here and there. Trim with lace.

Create as many Shabby Roses required to trim the lid of the box. Create one large and two small Martha Stewart butterflies. Leave for the required time to dry.

If you look closely you will see my large butterfly has a slightly shabby appearance which I didn’t mind it having but Laura passed on this great tip that you can take a wet brush to smooth out any uneven appearances when using paperclay. I will keep this tip in mind for future.

Once they are dry it is time to paint them. I used a mix of the Distress Paints for the roses. The large butterfly was painted with Distress Paint Tattered Rose and the small butterflies left unpainted as a contrast.

Tuck something pretty inside and there you have it, a gift for Mother’s Day.

Until next time,
