On A Cold And Frosty Christmas Morning by Lynne Moncrieff

This DT project was intended as decorating a papier mache box for Christmas gift presentation but when I received the Tim Holtz Woodland Lot Trees, let’s just say I got a wee bit carried away!

It still remains a Christmas gift box but would also be something that could be displayed before and after the 25th as a Christmas decoration.

It is a time consuming project but worth it as a nice way to make someone special feel extra special at Christmas.

PaperArtsy Fresco Finish Satin and Pearl Glazes
DekoIce Crystal (substitute with any clear/diamond glass glitter or sparkle. That’s Crafty has a huge selection)
Texture Paste (I used a coarse texture paste purchased from a supermarket but you can find a variety of pastes stocked at That’s Crafty)
Extras:- Round papier mache box, guipure lace, paper doily, tissue paper, Johnston & Johnson Klear Floor Polish (substitute with Mod Podge)

Preparing the box

Apply Gesso and Fresco Finish Snowflake to box.

Apply Fresco Finish Pearl Glaze. Repeatedly stamp snowflake with Archival ink then heat set.

Apply Pearl Glaze to paper doily. Adhere to lid then trim the rim of the lid with guipure lace. Lay aside.

Apply Fresco Finish Satin Glaze.

Now for some stamping. Cut white tissue paper to size, long enough to wrap around the box. Stamp text repeatedly. Generously apply Klear Floor Polish or Mod Podge to the box. Pat down the tissue paper with sponge brush. Apply more Klear Floor Polish or Mod Podge to the tissue paper. Leave to dry overnight.

Paint a light coat of Pearl Finish onto the base of the box.

Trim the bottom edge of the base with DekoIce or sparkle of your choice.

Lay the base aside as we now return to the lid.

Decorating the Lid

Randomly apply Gel Medium to a Tim Holtz tree, generously sprinkle DekoIce (or sparkle of your choice).

Apply Snowflake paint to the base of the tree and to a piece of Prima bark, then sprinkle DekoIce onto both. Adhere the tree to the bark.

Paint Pearl Finish onto white cardstock. Stamp girl and the teddy bear. Create the scene on the box lid applying texture paste, creating peaks as you work. Sprinkle DekoIce and Luna Silver mica flakes. Leave to dry overnight.

The finishing touches of DekoIce to the stamped images and trim lid with lace and a bow.

Tuck a gift inside and the box is ready to be gifted.

Until next week.
