Listen To The Crunch Of The Leaves (A Canvas) by Lynne Moncrieff

Initially I had in mind a final Halloween project but once I started I seemed to change direction with less of a focus on Halloween, the canvas depicting the crunch of Autumn leaves underfoot as Little Miss Pumpkin picks up a pumpkin for Halloween. With that particular stamp, the pumpkin could be cut away from her hands, substituted with a basket or gift parcels to make use of the stamp for a theme outwith Halloween.

Distress Inks:- Vintage Photo and Rusty Hinge
EcoGreen Crafts Acrylics:- Pure Copper and Aged Gold
Daler-Rowney Antique Brown Acrylic
Gold Leafing Pen
Golden Glass Bead Gel (substitute with Micro Beads)
Tim Holtz Grungeboard Flourish
Canvas 7”x5”
White Cardstock
Walnut Ink Crystals – dissolved (substitute with Distress Stain Walnut Stain)
Extra:- homemade spray ink, baby wipes, wooden easel and vintage sheet music

Flip canvas over and apply Gesso, Antique Brown acrylic, EcoGreen Craft Acrylics and randomly spray homemade ink. Heat set. Apply patches of Golden Glass Bead Gel (or Microbeads). Leave to dry. Apply more EcoGreen Craft Acrylics, blending with baby wipe.

Apply Pure Copper and Aged Gold acrylics to vintage sheet music. Adhere to recess of canvas.

Apply Gesso, homemade spray ink, gold leafing pen to Grungebord flourish. Adhere to canvas.

Stain white cardstock with dissolved Walnut Ink Crystals. Stamp pumpkin girl, October calendar and two dozen or so leaves. Fussy cut. Add extra colour with Distress Inks.

Apply acrylics to a Prima wooden leaf.

Gather the stamped images and wooden leaf and create a composition focusing on the leaves to give the impression the girl is walking through crunchy Autumn leaves. Silicone glue is my favourite when wanting to gain dimension.

Sparkle brings this canvas to life. In patches, I applied the Creative Expressions Enchanted Gold Gilding Wax and using Gel Medium as my adhesive of choice, I applied a generous sprinkle of Cosmic Shimmer Vintage Mica Flakes.

Display on a wooden easel.

Hope to see you in November.
