In The Tropics - A Tag By Fliss Goodwin

Hi there, I’ve a tag to share this week that came about as I was playing with my small Gelli plate and the original tag came out too dark so I misted on water and my tropical background was the result. I thought the cute scribbly bird would appreciate being in a warmer setting as it’s so chilly at the moment!

Distress Inks – Mustard Seed, Peacock Feathers, Worn Lipstick, Pumice Stone
DecoArt Media Fluid Acrylics – Hansa Yellow Light, Yellow Green Light, Cobalt Teal Hue
Water Mister
Old Credit Card or Store Card
Single Hole Punch or Crop-A-Dile

·       I made the paper which I glued to the tag with the Gelli Plate, applying dots of paint, starting with the lightest colour, yellow, first and using the credit card to spread the paint before adding the next colour and repeating the spreading with the other 2 paint colours.

·       I picked the paint up from the plate by pressing card onto it and the colour that came off was a little strong for my purpose (it will be appearing soon though) so I misted the plate with water and pressed on more card. The resulting paler colours were just right.

·       Use the floral mask with the pink, yellow and blue Distress inks to add a floral pattern to the painted paper. You’ll see that the painted background shows through giving a layered look to the resulting paper. Glue this to strong card and trim to a tag shape, punching a hole at the top.

·       I then added a stronger floral pattern to a scrap of the painted paper and stamped on a bird image with the black ink. I cut the bird out and inked around the edges with the Pumice Stone Distress ink to add definition

·       Stamp the text on some further scraps of inked paper and cut the lines out. Add the bird to the tag with foam tape, after checking the position of the text for placement. Glue on the text strips and tie some toning ribbon through the top to finish.
