Rosebuds and Butterflies by Lynne Moncrieff

When I was playing with paperclay and the Martha Stewart Garden Mold for last Sunday’s project I continued using the paperclay, this time with a different mould, creating a bouquet of shabby roses to decorate the wooden frame included in the IndigoBlu Slap It On Kit.

Supplies

WOW Shabby Roses Mould
Martha Stewart Garden Mold (small butterfly)
IndigoBlu Slap It On Kit (wooden picture frame)
Martha Stewart Summer Linen, Porcelain Doll and Putty

Instructions

To cover the IndigoBlu frame I needed 22 shabby roses using WOW Shabby Roses Mould.

I also made 3 small butterflies from the Martha Stewart Garden Mold.

The shabby roses are quite dense so I decided to leave them for 3 clear drying days. The manufacturing instructions for the Creative Paperclay recommends 1-3 days, depending on thickness of items.

For the frame I applied Gesso followed with the various paints listed. Some of the paints were dry brushed onto the picture frame.

Once the roses were dry I painted them with Vintage Lace. For the butterflies I only applied a light coat of Gesso.

I would advise you to plan the placement of the roses. I used Gel Medium and also silicone glue. I didn’t want the roses to all lie flat against the wood, I liked the idea of some overlapping and for the roses to face in different directions.

The three butterflies are seen fluttering amongst the roses.

This would look equally pretty framing a mirror.

Until next week,

Lynne
