A Feathered Friend by Fliss Goodwin

Hi there, I have a nature themed card for you this week featuring a bird from my absolute favourite set of bird stamps by Artemio which has quite a lot of our lovely feathered friends and is perfect for cards for men as well as ladies. I’ve gone for quite a striking colour scheme, which came about because I made the background paper first. It turned out quite bold so the kingfisher with his colourful feathers was the perfect choice.

Here’s What You Need:

Distress Stains – Shabby Shutters, Crushed Olive and Bundled Sage
VersaFine Inks – Spanish Moss, Deep Lagoon, Vintage Sepia
Scraps of Red and Teal Cardstock

Here’s How To:

·       First make the background paper. Cut a piece of manila cardstock to fit your chosen card blank. Apply patches of Distress Stains to the craft sheet, starting with the lightest colour first. Spray the card with water and then press into the stains until the card is covered. Mine ended up quite mottled and went well with my natural theme.

·       I then stamped on the feathers using the Spanish Moss first followed by Deep Lagoon and lastly the Vintage Sepia, using second generation stamping for some more faded images.

·       Ink up the kingfisher image with lagoon on the bird and sepia on the branch. This may seem a slightly odd choice but when you colour it, you’ll be surprised how well it works. Paint the image with Aquamarkers using a mix of red and orange on the chest and teal on the wings and head. Use a mix of grey and brown on the branch.

·       Trim the image to a rectangular panel and add mats of red then teal. Add the background paper to your card blank and finish off with the image panel on the right side. I’ve left off the sentiment for the moment as I find it useful to have a stock of cards for all occasions.

I hope you’re all surviving the current adverse weather conditions and are managing to keep warm and dry.

See you again soon.
