Alice in Wonderland Door Hanger by Carol Fox

I got one of the wooden door hangers from the shop this month to alter, this is what I did with it.

·       Sand it to make sure its not got any little bits on it and then paint it with Sky Fresco Paint, heat dry.

·       Add a layer of Crackle Glaze over the blue paint and heat dry.

·       Finish with a coat of Honey Dew paint and gently dry with your heat gun, moving the gun around so you don’t heat to long in place or else the paint will bubble. I have found the heating it seems to encourage a better crackle.

·       Seal with a coat of Satin Glaze.

·       Stamp your Alice image directly onto the painted surface and paint. I used a mixture of paints and Gelatos that were the right colours that I wanted.

·       Mask off your image, and using red paint, Cut and Dry Foam and a stencil add the hearts and paint splatters.

·       Edge the whole thing with black paint.

·       Seal with another coat of Satin Glaze.

·       Stamp the words directly onto the hanger and make them “pop” with Glossy Accents.

·       Hang on your door knob.

I used

Gelatos and odd paints to colour with

  1. I used the word "adorable" on your blog to describe the sneak peek of your door hanger. But, seeing it up close and personal, I have to change that one word to astonishing! I love the crackling effect, as if Alice is standing outside a building waiting to go in the door. How perfect! So well done, Carol! Thanks for sharing the process! Mwah! KayW

  2. Such a gorgeous door hanger - the crackle is fabulous, and those splattery hearts look like a "necessary" stencil!
