‘Twas the Night Before Christmas (A Doorhanger) by Lynne Moncrieff

I am sure this is now my third doorhanger for That’s Crafty, I like that they can be altered to any theme and it seemed a nice idea to create one for Christmas.

One side depicts ‘twas the night before Christmas with Father Christmas doing his rounds and the other side sees Christmas Day with the little boy.

Although bulky items have to be taken into account when altering a door hanger, I cannot resist embellishing the hanger in some form and I like the idea of movement which is why the main images were stamped onto tags.

Supplies

PaperArtsy Fresco Finish:- Irish Cream and Vintage Lace
Martha Stewart Paints:- Putty, Summer Linen and Rose Gold
Studio Calico Tiny Stars
Stencil Brush
Tags:- I used two buff shipping tags but manila tags would be suitable
Extras:- Kraft style cardstock sourced from old packaging (cardboard packing box), old book pages, Ticking fabric, vintage red trim, lace stars cut from vintage doily

Instructions

The two sides were prepared differently only because I wanted the same colour palette but to create different textures for interest. To save time simply follow the instructions for Side Two for both sides.

SIDE ONE:-

Preparing the Base of the Hanger:-

Apply Gesso followed with Putty paint.

Stamp decorative advertisement with Fired Brick, stipple Gesso followed by stippling Fired Brick ink. Randomly stamp star. Heat set between each layer.

Dry brush swipes of Putty followed by PaperArtsy Crackle Finish. Now apply Summer Linen. Leave for a few moments and then use heat gun to form blisters. Sandpaper the surface.

Stamp ‘twas the night before Christmas, heat set before lightly stippling Gesso over text.

Stamping and Embellishing:-

Apply Gesso and stamp Father Christmas onto tag. Lay aside.

Stamp stars and words onto book text painted with Summer Linen and Vintage Lace.

Apply Gesso to Kraft style cardstock, stamp dog.

Adhere tag and stamped elements to hanger, embellish with vintage trims and star cut from vintage doily.

Sponge Fired Brick onto the Studio Calico Tiny Stars and scatter onto the hanger.

Paint scrap of the prepared Kraft cardstock with Rose Gold paint (this is a gorgeous paint, a rich metallic with lovely depth). Stamp two jingle bells, attach one to tag. Embellish with a real jingle bell. Keep the other jingle bell for Side Two.

SIDE TWO

Preparing the base surface:-

Apply Gesso and Summer Linen.

Swipe the Fired Brick ink pad directly onto the surface.

Heat set before applying Putty.

Follow this with the Crackle finish and the Summer Linen paint.

Stamping and Embellishing:-

Pleat fabric and adhere to bottom of hanger.

Apply Gesso and stamp boy onto tag. Attach the other jingle bell to the tag and embellish with real jingle bell.

Onto prepared Kraft style cardstock stamp teddy, stars, candy canes and stamp words onto the painted book page.

Adhere all to Side Two of hanger and again embellish with vintage trim and the Studio Calico Tiny Stars.

Next week will be my final DT project for 2013.

Until then …

Wishes

Lynne
